National Cleaner Production Centre South Africa
2019 African Responsible Tourism Awards
The National Cleaner Production Centre South Africa (NCPC-SA) is a national programme of government that promotes the implementation of resource efficient and cleaner production (RECP) methodologies to assist industry to lower costs through reduced energy, water and materials usage, and waste management. It is hosted by the CSIR on behalf of the Department of Trade and Industry (the dti).
The NCPC-SA’s vision is to be South Africa’s centre of excellence in resource efficient and cleaner production.
The NCPC-SA’s mission is to drive resource efficient and cleaner production in industrial and selected commercial sectors by equipping industry to do business in an efficient, sustainable and competitive manner, contributing to a low carbon and green economy.
This is achieved through the following four strategic objectives:
1. Industrial sector competitiveness through resource efficient and cleaner production (RECP)
2. RECP capacity building and green skills development
3. Supporting the transition of industry to a low carbon economy
4. Policy advice, advocacy and demonstrating the impact of RECP
The NCPC-SA is a member of UNIDO and UNEP’s global resource efficiency and cleaner production network (RECPnet) and plays a leading role in the African Roundtable on Sustainable Production and Consumption (ARSCP).
