Bekithemba is currently serving as a Director: Responsible Tourism at the National
Department of Tourism since 2009. His career spans across the Tourism Industry
and Financial Services. Before joining NDT, he was Executive Manager at Cape
Town Routes Unlimited, the Western Cape Destination Marketing Organisation
(CTRU).
At NDT, he has been responsible for the development and implementation of the
National Standard for Responsible Tourism, the Universal Access in Tourism Action
Plan the Operational Guidelines for Community based Tourism.
He also previously served as the National Advisory Committee Member for the
International Labour Organisation Sustaining Competitive and Responsible
Enterprises (SCORE) programme. He is also former Portfolio Chairperson of the
Advocacy and Lobby Portfolio of the Sustainable Tourism Certification Alliance
Africa.
Bekithemba is passionate about community development, and in his spare time
serves as Chairperson of the AmaHlubi Heritage Foundation Trust.
He holds a B.Social Science degree from the University of Cape Town.
