Founders and organisers of the World Responsible Tourism Awards, Responsible Travel, wants to help people live their dreams through authentic and life-enriching adventures. They aim to ensure that these adventures benefit local people and wildlife and try to be a catalyst for change in the tourism industry.
With this challenge in mind they founded the Awards in 2004, with a vision to seek out and celebrate the most enduring and inspirational responsible tourism experiences globally, and to raise awareness among tourists and the tourism industry alike about what responsible tourism can achieve.
Responsible Travel is now the world’s largest platform for ethical tour providers (with a rigorous system in place to ensure each company fits the guidelines to be represented in the site). The company is growing by 30% each year with its profits dependent on an ‘Honesty Box’ where tour providers voluntarily declaring their commission. “At £100M, I think we might have the biggest honesty box in the world. By showing our partners trust, we’ve forged fantastic relationships.” Justin Francis CEO
Responsible Travel’s holiday collection includes holidays from almost 400 small, specialist and ethical tour operators in over 190 countries. In 15 years, they have helped over 100,000 people live their travel dreams. Responsible Travel also creates and collates content about inspirational people, NGOs and brands; environmental and animal rights campaigns and travel guides and tips.
CEO Justin Francis has been included in Courvoisiers The Future 500, Thames and Hudsons 60 Innovators Shaping Our Creative Future and taken his place on the Advisory Board of The International Centre for Responsible Tourism.
