Hibon Lodge’s scorecard after the first site visit

Here is a summary of the responsible practices that Hibon Lodge were involved in when we did the first site visit.

Water saving devices
  • Some taps are fitted with aerators or other water-saving devices
  • The washing machine has a water-wise cycle
  • Rainwater tanks are used to store rainwater

  • Linen is changed every second day

Energy saving devices
  • Most lighting is energy efficient CFLs or LEDs
  • Rooms have extra blankets for use in cooler months
  • Some outdoor lighting is on a timer

  • Laundry is  air dried

  • Trips made by vehicle are planned so that there are no or fewer ’empty legs’

Reducing waste
  • Food waste is minimised, eg by making meals to order instead of a buffet

  • Organic waste is composted on site
Disposal of hazardous waste
  • The business knows which waste is harmful and needs special disposal methods

Vegetation
  • There are areas where vegetation is planted
  • Indigenous plants are used in landscaping

  • Alien invasive plants are actively removed
Supporting biodiversity conservation
  • The business knows what areas of interest in terms of biodiversity are nearby
  • Guests are provided with written material about these areas
  • The business makes in-kind contributions to these areas
