2015 African Responsible Tourism Awards nominations now closed

“The companies that we recognise in the Awards are those who are able to document the difference they are making to people’s lives and their cultural and natural environments…. The awards go beyond certification – we get to see what companies and destinations are actually doing.”
– Professor Harold Goodwin

Nominations for the 2015 African Responsible Tourism Awards have now closed. Heroes of responsible tourism in Africa will be honoured at the 2015 African Responsible Tourism Awards which will be held in Cape Town this year. This inaugural event forms part of the prestigious World Responsible Tourism Awards, the world’s most respected responsible tourism awards. Winners of the African awards will automatically be entered into the global awards.

“With its unique natural and cultural landscapes, Africa offers many opportunities for responsible tourism. Tourism organisations are already growing tourism that preserves, respects and benefits African destinations and African people. The African Responsible Tourism Awards aims to celebrate the efforts made by individuals, organisations and destinations in Africa. The awards also aim to inspire change in the African tourism industry”, says Heidi van der Watt, co-founder of Better Tourism Africa (previously the International Centre for Responsible Tourism South Africa).

The awards will be presented at a ceremony on 16 April, hosted as part of World Travel Market Africa at the Cape Town ICC from 15 – 17 April 2015.

More than a hundred nominations were received from 16 countries across Africa for the following categories:
